Petron partners with Limay LGU for its first Pawikan Hatchery

Petron partners with Bataan to support marine turtle conservation, including a new hatchery and community training programs.

Petron Foundation, Inc. (PFI) formalized its partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan, Local Government of Limay and the local community through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement, confirming its support to Limay’s Pawikan Conservation and Protection Program. This three-year program includes the establishment of a Pawikan Hatchery in Bgy. Kitang 2 and Luz, and a series of information, education, and communication trainings to enhance the capability of the LGU and local communities on proper marine turtle conservation practices and hatchery management.

This initiative is part of the broader 1Bataan Pawikan Conservation Alliance Network (1PawiCAN) Program, a significant undertaking of the Province to protect Bataan’s biodiversity and contribute to a healthier marine ecosystem by establishing hatcheries in other municipalities, including Bagac, Limay, Mariveles, and Morong.

Petron, through PFI, has long supported Pawikan conservation programs in Bataan such as the annual Pawikan Festival in Morong, which continues to raise awareness and foster community engagement in conservation efforts. Additionally, this aligns with Petron’s ESG initiatives, particularly with environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation by preserving the ecological balance of the coastal community. This is only one of many other initiatives we support as part of our commitment to our fenceline communities.
