Ingredients:

  • 3 lb. pork leg
  • 1 pork cube
  • 1 bunch baby bok choy
  • 10 shiitake mushrooms
  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 6 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup cooking wine (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 3 tbsp water
  • 3-star anise
  • 2 tsp whole peppercorn
  • 12 cups water

Directions:

  1. Warm your turbo broiler to 350 F and broil the pork leg within 20 minutes.
  2. Pour 6 cups of water into your skillet and let it boil. Add the broiled pork leg and boil within 15 minutes. Drain the water and wash the pork leg with running water.
  3. Arrange the pork leg in a clean skillet and add the soy sauce, sesame oil, cooking wine, plus 6 cups of water. Add the whole peppercorn and let it boil within 1 to 2 hours until the pork gets tender.
  4. Add the pork cube, star anise, plus shitake mushroom, and cook within 20 minutes. Add the sugar, stir well and pour the cornstarch mixture. Stir well again and cook until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add baby bok choy and cook for 2 minutes until wilted. Serve!
