Media personalities, campus journalists, and bloggers from Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique attended the ED Talks (Editorial Development Talks) held at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel on August 9, 2019.

This initiative was organized by Nate Barretto, former Manila Bulletin provincial editor, in partnership with San Miguel Corporation to empower media practitioners with dynamic discussions. The said event featured one of the country’s sought-after resource speakers from the field of journalism.

Arnel Patawaran, Manila Bulletin Lifestyle Editor, delivered a talk on ‘Beyond Festivals: Promoting our heritage through stories on art, food, music, and culture,’ stressing the importance of local heritage against national-leg led events.

Meanwhile, Stanley Cris F. Larano, DWIZ anchor and former correspondent of Wall Street Journal & Dow Jones discussed the business side of media with ‘Making Sense of Business Development in the Region.’

Allan P. Hernandez, Editor of AOMnl and former editor-in-chief of FHM Philippines shared to the participants how Summit Media ceased its print editions of sub-magazines such as FHM, Cosmopolitan Philippines, Yes Magazine, Top Gear, and Preview among many others, and are going fully digital.

“What was [FHM] supposed to be the top bread-making expanse for Summit Media is now dead,” Hernandez said, discussing that media is now digital and espouses an Adapt-or-Die setting.

Francis T. Ochoa, Sports Editor of Philippine Daily Inquirer, discussed Sports Journalism in the Digital Age especially when covering events outside the country.

ED Talks is a series of journalism lectures for regional media to equip them with apt responsibilities as journalists and confer proper knowledge and skills to tackle the challenges of the ever-changing media landscape.
