There’s no limit to how creative you can get when dealing with hot days!
Everyone is familiar with the typical summer weather – blistering hot days all about barbeques and pool parties. But for those of us who may prefer to stay indoors and beat the heat, there are plenty of fun things you can do indoors to keep yourself occupied.
With some creativity, you can turn your home into a source of entertainment! Invite friends for the game night, and whip up delicious cool treats in the kitchen.
Having a hot day but running out of ideas on what you can do at home?
Make a summer playlist jam.
Take the time to create a summer mix of all your favorite songs that make you feel like it’s the height of summertime. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, create a unique playlist by taking advantage of streaming services and exploring other genres and styles of music you haven’t heard before. Nothing beats blasting your favorite tunes on a hot day!
Play board games.
Board games are an excellent way to pass the time and bond with loved ones. Games such as Monopoly, Scrabble, Chess, Checkers, and many others offer endless entertainment for all ages.
Make your own ice candy!
This is a great way to cool off while enjoying a sweet treat. All you need are some popsicle or ice cream molds, juices or fruits that you prefer, sugar (optional), and some water or milk – then freeze overnight!

Have a home movie marathon.
Have a home movie marathon with friends or family members who live nearby. If they’re further away, invite them via Skype/FaceTime/Zoom, etc., so everybody can join the fun together. Popcorn is always optional but recommended for this activity to make it even more fun (and delicious!).
Ice cream party.
Everyone loves ice cream! Why not organize an ice cream party with family members living together? Set up an outdoor picnic under shady trees and enjoy different flavors of ice cream and other tasty snacks like cookies or pie for dessert afterward!
Paint or draw.
Show off your artistic side by painting or drawing something creative – anything from abstract shapes to nature scenes – whatever makes you happy when viewing it afterward is key here! Don’t forget to take pictures as souvenirs once finished so everyone else can admire your work.
Write or start journaling.
Start journaling about how these hot days make you feel. It could be anything from gratefulness towards staying home safely during this pandemic to things that made you laugh during the day. Recording these memories helps us appreciate life more deeply, and we get our writing skills honed during this process!
Have an indoor picnic with the family.
Have an indoor picnic with the family – bring out all those blankets, cushions, and baskets filled with sandwiches and fruits. Create an atmosphere similar to picnicking outdoors while enjoying being surrounded by air conditioning inside! You don’t need fancy stuff here.
Add some educational elements by discussing interesting topics, stories, and current events. So go ahead and get creative! There are plenty of ways to keep ourselves entertained indoors on hot days.
Take a nap
It may sound too simple, but sleeping during the hottest parts of the day will help keep your body temperature down. Make sure your bedroom is well-ventilated with shutters or curtains open or closed, depending on how hot it is outside. You can also try keeping a fan in your room to create a cool breeze while you sleep.
Stargaze
Head outside and enjoy the night sky when the sun goes down. Stargazing can be relaxing and entertaining all at once. However, check for any light pollution in your area first, as it will significantly reduce the stars’ visibility. With some luck, you might even be able to spot some meteor showers! You can find astronomical events here and here.
Meditate
Besides helping reduce stress, meditation can also help reduce body temperature by calming both mind and body. Try finding a quiet corner of your home that offers peace and tranquillity, and use a guided meditation app such as Headspace or Calm for more profound relaxation techniques.
Cool off with a fun bath
Fill the tub with cold water and add some scented bath salts for a unique experience! If you don’t have bath salts handy, add some ice cubes and enjoy the chill sensation all over your body as they melt away.
Play a video game in multiplayer mode
Multi-player online games are great fun with family or friends on hot days when stuck indoors! Choose something everyone can enjoy, such as Mario Kart 8, where players race each other via remote control cars on different tracks worldwide. Plus, plenty of bonus items make things even more enjoyable!
Learn a new skill
What better way to spend those long summer days than learning something new? Why not try spoken word poetry or origami folding? Plenty of tutorials are available online today, making it easier than ever for anyone to get started with their new hobby from wherever they are located, regardless of their skill level.
Create cool summer dishes and drinks
Enjoying meals together doesn’t have to be boring if you come up with creative recipes that everyone in the family can get involved in making. Whip up some homemade smoothies for refreshment, create delicious salads loaded with nutrients for lunchtime cravings, or even prepare barbecued snacks like sliders and kabobs if grilling isn’t allowed due to weather constraints!
Host a pizza party
Get creative in the kitchen by inviting family members over for an afternoon pizza party where everyone gets involved in crafting their pizzas from scratch using fresh ingredients like vegetables, cheese, and herbs grown right at home! This activity is great fun for young children who want to explore their culinary skill sets without worrying about getting burnt from high temperatures outdoors. Plus, consuming healthy foods won’t hurt either!
Self-spa day
Hot days don’t have to mean missing out on pampering yourself, either. Indulge yourself in an at-home spa day where everything from face masks to foot scrubs can be enjoyed in your private residence! Allocate 15 minutes after every hour spent indoors just relaxing through activities such as manicures/pedicures or DIY facials so that by evening time, your skin feels revitalized despite beating temperatures outside earlier during peak hours.
Do a cardio exercise
Move away from traditional exercises like weightlifting or yoga. Instead, opt for aerobic activities such as running stairs inside buildings/homes or jogging around nearby parks (if permitted). Cardio workouts help regulate blood flow throughout our bodies which keeps us cooler compared to higher-intensity routines usually done outdoors under scorching sunshine conditions.
