Iloilo City was graced by the cello recital of 12-year-old prodigy, Damodar Das Castillo, who left the Ilonggos in awe with his rendition of the popular Visayan song, “Ohoy Alibangbang,” on August 17 at the Nelly’s Garden in Jaro. He was accompanied by Dingdong Fiel on the piano.
Damodar opened the recital with a performance from Tchaikovsky’s “Pezzo Capriccioso,” which received an overwhelming applaud from concert-goers. Among his other acts consist of Saint-Saens’ “The Swan from Carnival of the Animals,” Schuman’s “Fantasy Pieces for Cello and Piano, Op. 73” and Saint-Saens’ “Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 33.”
Impresario Pablo Tariman, who organized the cello recital, talked about holding more musical concerts in Iloilo. Tariman was also responsible for holding three Licad concerts in Iloilo City last year.
Senator Franklin Drilon, who also present during the recital, reiterates the importance of arts in Iloilo City, making it a center of cultural excellence. The concert was dedicated to the late cellist Miguel Lim Cornejo and former Tourism Secretary Narzalina Lim. It was supported by the Miguel Lim Cornejo Scholarship Fund and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo.
