Who doesn’t love crunchy, delicious crablets? They’re a Pinoy food staple, and for good reason – they’re simply irresistible!
Crispy crablets are a type of mangrove crab that is popular in many parts of Asia. They are often eaten whole, and their small size makes them perfect for snacking. While they may be delicious, crispy crablets are also dangerous to catch in the wild. Mangrove crabs, Scylla serrata, are protected under Philippine law, and it is illegal to catch, possess, transport, sell, trade or export SMALL or BABY CRABLETS.
This includes smaller or baby mangrove crablets. The only people who are allowed to catch them are registered agri-companies and gatherers, and even then they must follow strict guidelines! Unfortunately, many people still engage in the illegal practice of catching crablets. This not only harms the environment but also puts a strain on the economy for sustainability.
