The streets are jam-packed with local and international bikers for the Gran Fondo New York – GFNY Asia Championship 2019. Romeo Camingao, 48 years old, from Marikina City rides FIRST on the finish line for the long-distance course.
Camingao clocked in at a total time of 3:36:34 for the competitive long-distance course men’s category. He was followed by second-place winner Ean Cajucom at 3:47:16, then by Leopoldo Japitana Jr. III at 3:48:16.
Mercy Cajucom, wife of Camingao, spoke with Vos+Creo about her husband’s recent win. “Asawa ko po ‘yan!” she said as their family waited for news about the race. Cajucom said she was thankful of how her husband won the event.
Meanwhile, May Anne Mares emerged victorious under the women’s category with 4:49:43 log, followed by Mary Luz Shimizu from Pitcairn Islands at 4:52:58, and Bubbles Paraiso with 5:03:52.
Around 300 cyclists across the Philippines and from 15 nations participated in the international race. The GFNY Iloilo’s overall male and female winners will compete for the the GFNY NYC World Championship on May 17, 2020.
