The 1st Iloilo Jazz Festival will finally take place to feature the best of Iloilo’s jazz musicians on August 23, at the UPV Auditorium. The event will highlight the much-awaited performance of one of the country’s most prominent jazz artists, who is a true-blue Ilonggo, Mr. Rey Infante, and his band, composed of an all-star rhythm section.
The event will draw in the predominantly upscale market of Iloilo, Gen X, and Baby Boomers. The 1st Iloilo Jazz Festival will be an exciting fusion of jazz music, food, drinks, and a jazzy vibe.
This year, the event will coincide with the celebration of the Iloilo Charter Day.
“The jazz community has been active for the last 20 years, holding events in bars, taverns, and restaurants,” Jida Hautea of Passion8 Events and Services said.
“This [Iloilo Jazz Festival] is a start, it’s a prelude to all future jazz festivals in the city,” she added.
Hautea also mentioned that there will be a Dinagyang Jazz Festival which will feature more artists. “This is just a taste of what’s to come for Dinagyang and hopefully we’ll have an international jazz artist to come in Iloilo,” Hautea said.
The Jazz Festival aims to bring jazz enthusiasts in one exciting event and raise funds for its beneficiary, Balay Dalayunan: A Home for the Boys in Bo. Obrero, Lapuz District.
The event was organized by the Iloilo Jazz Enthusiasts, Mayor Jerry Treñas, and the University of the Philippines Alumni Association – Iloilo Chapter.
The Young Ilonggo Artists (Jazz Influence Music), JB Sayco, and The Crones will lead the front act, followed by the Bacolod Jazz Band and Iloilo Jazz Band.
The Main Act will comprise of famed jazz musicians, Rey Infante (guitar), Joss Tulagan (bass), Tim Dadivas (drums), Juni Alquisada (keys), and Faye Yupano (vocals).
